POSITION SUMMARY:
As a Java Web Developer, you will be working in a cross functional team responsible for the development, maintenance and support of the presentation layer for world class web applications and services which provide solutions for leading commercial insurers, insurance brokers, risk managers, law firm and other related organizations.
The ideal Java Web Developer candidate will have 5+ years of professional experience working as part of a front end technology team. Experience working with technologies that provide customer facing web applications is preferred.
The successful Java Web Developer will have a sustained track record of delivering high-quality solutions on-time and on-budget. The candidate must demonstrate a strong technical competency in an environment that values accountability, quality, commitment, growth, and innovation. They will also:
- Technically develop presentation level changes on web sites, web applications. Accurately implement web site, web application or web service features as described by functional requirement documents, wireframes, information architecture documents, interaction design documents, and graphical comps using presentation layer technologies on existing and new ecommerce websites
- Assist in production problem resolution as needed, including off-hour support.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s Degree with concentration in the area of Information Systems or Computer Science.
NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge and experience of the following: Java Core, J2EE; JavaScript; JSP; HTML, CSS, SQL; Development Frameworks (Spring or Struts), Java Design Patterns
- Experience with some or all of the following software technologies: XML, XSLT; SOAP; Ajax; JQuery, JSON, JfreeChart, Maven, Ant, UML
- Experience with some or all of the following web application servers: JBoss or Tomcat
- Experience with some or all of the following DBMS: MySQL, MS SQL; Oracle.
- Experience with cross browser testing
- Experience with site performance testing
- Experience with scripting (Python, UNIX shell) is a big plus.
- Experience working with web services
- Working knowledge of code management tools such as CVS or SVN
- Excellent oral and written communications skills
